Windows Snipping Tool
Win+Shift+S is the only shortcut Windows users need for support diagnostics.
The Snipping Tool Evolution
Windows 11 overhauled the Snipping Tool. It is no longer just for static images; it now includes native video capture, rendering third-party tools largely obsolete for basic diagnostic reports.
Standard Capture Workflow
- Press Windows Key + Shift + S to dim the screen and open the capture menu at the top.
- Select the Window Snip option (third icon).
- Hover over your browser and click to capture the entire window, preserving the URL bar and UI context.
- Click the notification that appears in the bottom right to open the image in the Snipping Tool editor.
- Use the highlighter/pen tools to annotate the bug.
Video Capture
To record video natively in Windows 11:
- Open the Snipping Tool app directly (via the Start Menu).
- Click the Video Camera icon in the toolbar.
- Click New and draw a bounding box around your browser window.
- Click Start. The resulting MP4 file is highly compressed and perfect for Zendesk uploads.
