Recording Protocol

Video is expensive. Unoptimized 4K screen recordings will bounce from Zendesk due to 20MB attachment limits.

The 1080p Rule

Unless you are debugging a retina-specific CSS rendering issue, 4K resolution is wasted data. Downscale your capture area or your output file to 1080p (1920x1080) maximum.

Framerate limits (30 FPS max)

You are recording a B2B SaaS dashboard, not a Twitch stream. 60 FPS doubles your file size for zero diagnostic benefit. Lock capture at 30 FPS. If you are using QuickTime, it defaults to 60 FPS on ProMotion displays—use a tool like Handbrake to compress it, or use our CLI recommendations.

File Size Math

1 minute of 4K @ 60FPS H.264 ≈ 250MB (Fails Zendesk upload)

1 minute of 1080p @ 30FPS H.265 ≈ 12MB (Passes instantly)

Show the Setup

Do not start the recording at the exact moment the bug happens. Start 5 seconds earlier. Show the state of the application *before* the action that triggers the error.
